Winners Announced for Prestigious 2020 Ebrahim K. Kanoo Award for Engineering Excellence

Ebrahim K. Kanoo, the diversified business conglomerate, has announced the winners of the 2021 Ebrahim K. Kanoo Award for Engineering Excellence, which is held in partnership with the College of Engineering at the University of Bahrain to recognise the best final year project from mechanical engineering students.

The Ebrahim K. Kanoo Award for Engineering Excellence is part of the company’s commitment to bettering the lives of the youth of the country and helping them realise their full potential through academic and internship opportunities.

The winning team, comprising Mohammed Salah, Sayed Hashem Abdulla, Bassam Sadeq Yaqoob and Ali Hasan Ali, was chosen for their outstanding graduation project which is an Eco-friendly alternative for cooling. As opposed to the conventional vapor compression cycles the team’s system is based on the principle of evaporative cooling that uses chilled water to cool the air, integrated with a liquid desiccant based dehumidification stage to be suitable for Bahrain's humid weather. As a result, the alternative cycle showed an enhanced cooling load and lower electrical consumption with zero toxic emissions to the environment.

Ebrahim K. Kanoo CEO; Mr. Mike Brightmore, congratulated the winning project group stating, “The Ebrahim K. Kanoo Award for Engineering Excellence was created to encourage innovation amongst the youth in Bahrain by providing them with an incentive to design projects that tackle and solve different issues within the field. We are proud to be awarding a new batch of brilliant students of the College of Engineering who have utilised their skills and knowledge to create a solution to a real issue.”

This year’s event was held virtually in accordance to government covid-19 precautionary measures and was live streamed to all college students, their families and faculty and partners.
