Prius 2019: Toyota’s Flagship Hybrid Electric Vehicle Gets Sharper Look

Reinforcing Toyota’s commitment to remain at the forefront of sustainability and environmental engineering, Ebrahim K. Kanoo; the exclusive distributor of Toyota vehicles in Bahrain has launched the 2019 Prius at its showroom in Sitra

With its exceptional environmental performance, futuristic design and unsurpassed driving pleasure, the fourth generation of the company’s global hybrid electric icon seeks to build on its reputation as the world’s most popular self-charging Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV).

Electrification of vehicles has been an indispensable focus for Toyota since 1997 and the company has launched a variety of HEVs in the past two decades, leading to a steady rise in the adoption of its environment-friendly vehicles and pushing its cumulative sales of electrified vehicles to over 12 million. This enormous sales record represents a reduction of more than 94 million tons of CO2 compared to the sales of equivalent conventional vehicles and underscores the tremendous support received from customers.

“We are thrilled to launch the 2019 Prius in the Middle East, with its refreshed design, upgraded cabin and advanced technologies,” commented Yugo Miyamoto, Chief Representative, Middle East and North Africa Representative Office, Toyota Motor Corporation. “The 2019 Prius is a true testament to Toyota’s unrelenting commitment to lead worldwide efforts aimed at reducing carbon emissions by developing environmentally sustainable vehicles. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to our customers for their constant support and motivation to build ‘ever-better’ cars,” Miyamoto added.

Senior Manager of Toyota Marketing at Ebrahim K. Kanoo; Mr. Ayman Shehadeh commented on the new Prius’s look and feel stating; “The kingdom of Bahrain is actively seeking out better and more efficient energy solutions in line with global trends. Toyota’s Hybrid technology is the best example of the first step in the direction of sustainable transport and is a popular choice with both environmentally conscious individuals and those who wish to save on fuel expenses.”

The latest evolution of Prius’ styling gives the vehicle a cleaner look that engages the senses more strongly than ever. Sharp, slim new front headlights and new rear combination lamps emphasize the vehicle’s low centre of gravity and produce a more dynamic, flowing silhouette.

In the cabin, the centre console arrangement and instrument panel have been modified and the distinguishable quietness in the cabin creates a comfortable space for talking and enjoying music, making every drive a memorable experience.

Powering the 2019 model is the 1.8-liter Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i)-equipped Atkinson cycle petrol engine that teams up with two electric motors to offer the best features of both, offering drivers seamless acceleration for a smooth driving experience. The petrol engine delivers a maximum output of 97 hp at 5,200 rpm, and a peak torque of 14.5 kg-m at 3,600 rpm, while the electric motor delivers 71 hp of power and 16.6 kg-m of torque, achieving an impressive fuel efficiency of up to 26.1 km/L.

The 2019 Prius can be driven entirely on electrical power with zero-fuel consumption and tailpipe emissions, or by combining the power generated from both the petrol engine and two electric motors, depending on the vehicle’s speed and customer’s driving behaviour. Its hybrid batteries are continuously charged by either the petrol engine or when decelerating and braking, eliminating the need to plug in a power cord. Furthermore, the hybrid electric model features a host of advanced technologies, yet drives like any other conventional vehicle and does not require special fuel.
